Verify Before You Trust

Basic checks, sensible tools and seller diligence for precious-metal buyers.

Begin with the seller

Verification starts before the package arrives. Review who is selling the item, fulfillment details, return terms and whether the listing clearly states weight, purity and manufacturer.

Check weight and dimensions

A precision scale and calipers can identify obvious discrepancies. Compare measurements with manufacturer specifications rather than relying on appearance alone.

Use magnetism carefully

Gold and silver are not strongly magnetic. A basic magnet check can reveal some fakes, but passing it does not prove authenticity because many nonmagnetic materials exist.

Inspect packaging and details

Look for inconsistent lettering, rough edges, suspicious seams, incorrect certificates or damaged assay packaging. Compare the piece with trustworthy manufacturer references.

Escalate when value warrants it

For higher-value holdings, consider professional testing or purpose-built instruments. No single home test should be treated as absolute proof.
